Introduction
In today’s fast-paced e-commerce landscape, a well-structured return policy is essential for maintaining customer trust and operational efficiency. As online shopping grows, so does the volume of returns, making it crucial for brands to implement clear, scalable return policies that enhance customer experience while optimizing logistics.
This is where EcoReturns plays a key role. By streamlining return processes, brands can establish transparent policies, reduce manual intervention, minimize errors, and accelerate turnaround times. With EcoReturns in place shoppers are clear why an item is restricted for return, exchange and which items are allowed.
In this article, we’ll explore how you can setup return policies in EcoReturns to restrict return and exchange requests
Configuring return policy
To restrict returns and exchanges of products based on conditions follow the below steps.
- Go to Return Policies under Settings.
- Click on Add New Policy
- You can restrict items using the following parameters
- order_tags : You can use this incase you want to block all the line items in an order having or not having a particular tag.
- product_tags: You can use this incase you want to block only those products having or not having the configured product tag .
- price: You can use this to block line items above or below a price.
- customer_tags: You can use this to block customers submitting fraudulent returns or some other criteria
- fulfillment_status: You can use this to allow only fulfilled items for return request submission.
- delivery_date: You can use this to setup the return window for your orders. If the delivery status is updated in your platform EcoReturns blocks items after return window is closed from delivery date. If delivery date is not present it considers the last updated status date or fulfillment date.
- order_date: Incase delivery status is not present in your platform we suggest you to use order_date paramter and add additional shipping time to the return window period to setup the policy.
- date_ordered: If you want to block the items during a sale period you can use the date_ordered parameter and enter the sale dates. Items between those dates will be restricted.
- variant_id: If you only want to block a particular variant but not the whole product, you can use this parameter. You can enter multiple values here if you have multiple variants that you want to restrict.
- Other parameters like country, custom_item, financial_status, metafields can also be used to restrict returns as per your need.
- After selecting the parameter you can add the condition (Equal, Not equal, Contains, Between, More than, Less than etc) and enter the value
- Now you can configure what should happen based on the condition.
- Return not allowed
- Exchange not allowed
- Refund modes which are allowed
- Finally you can define the message to be shown to your shoppers on return portal when an order or item is blocked due to the policy configured and Click on Save policy
- You can create a test order to verify if the policy is working as expected. If not feel free to reach out to us.
